The Department of Silvicultura (DS) has the mission to act in the professional formation in the planning areas, implantation, management, inventory, protection, improvement, forest economy and exploration.
Objective to develop education, research and extension of qualities in the forestry areas and management of native forests and forest plantations, aiming at its sustainable use and its conservation.
Of millenarian origin, and today integrant part of Forest Science, silviculture was consolidated in the Europe and gave origin in this continent to the Forest Engineering Courses in the twilight of XVIII century , and, in ground native, of 1960 in ahead. It is a branch of the knowledge of utmost importance for the sustainable development of Brazil, that it makes use of the second bigger forest area of the earth. This wealth confers to the country the possibility to changed itself into the second bigger forest economy of the world in the short space of a generation.
In my professional life, I feel particularly honored in directing the Department of Silviculture of the UFRURALRJ. On behalf of the professors and of the administrative technician who form the rich human picture of the DS, I welcome those who enter here with the objective to take and exchange information.
